Chelsey Hoban
We’re the Good Guys – We’re Here to Help You
Born in Saskatchewan, Chelsey Hoban moved to Victoria, BC, when she was just 7 years old and she has always called Victoria home. And she’s always been in the banking industry.

After gradating from high school in 2001, Chelsey joined TDBank as a teller until March 2004. Then she realized her life dream by backpacking in Thailand and Australia for 10 months. “It was an experience I’ll never forget,” says Chelsey. “I saw so much; learned so much”.

When she returned home for Christmas in 2004, she stayed and went back to TDBank for 3 more months as a teller. She soon became a Financial Services Rep and started doing mortgages and mutual funds. She honed her skills in this position until July 2007, when she joined Victoria Hyundai as Business Manager until May 2008. During this time Chelsey became a licensed mortgage broker and found her passion and her niche.

She was hired by CIBC in May 2008 and Chelsey now works both from her home office, her bank office and any place her customers would like to meet with her.

“I really love doing this. I’ve already bought 2 houses myself and renovated them. One of them is now my home, which I share with my boyfriend. Now we have a fabulous house and that makes it worth it”.

“My mom, a Commercial Manager for TDBank, got me my first banking job and that job allowed me to work permanent part-time while I was going to college to get my business degree. Then, when I became full-time, the bank paid for the courses I needed specific to the job I was in. I was in the same position as a university graduate, doing all the same functions as a personal banker, but with a different title”.

“And because I was then able to do any of those specialties, I could choose one area that I enjoyed more, excelled in and that was mortgages and home equity loans/lines of credit”.

“I like banking. I’m a very big people person and so I love meeting new clients and not being in an office all day. Many of my clients are referrals from realtors who I network with”.

“And because I’ve lived in Victoria most of my life, I have a big social network of my own. I like to target first time homebuyers and, because I’m young, only 25, I speak the same language they do. And then, after their first home, all their future homes will come to me. I have credibility with them that perhaps an older person might not have because of my age. Plus I can help them with taxation and RRSP issues too”.

Chelsey is expanding her business network by becoming a new member of the Victoria Chamber of Commerce and Roaring Women. She learned about Roaring Women from a friend of hers who knows Victoria Regional Director Carolyn Taylor. This friend sent Chelsey to the Roaring Women website to compare businesswomen’s networks.

“Roaring Women was an easier website to navigate, more professional and a much better deal, price wise, and it was local. I liked that. Now I’ll have the opportunity to learn from other women how to market myself”.

Chelsey’s parting thoughts for those who read her profile? “We’re the good guys. We’re here to help you and show you all your financial and mortgage options”.
